How long does it take for a transfer of a domain to happen?
Each TLD (.com, .ca, .net), and with all the new ones that are offered now are each governed by a different authority that sets the rules around how domains are handled and managed. One of those policies is a transfer policy between registrars.
Most domains have a five (5) day rule. ICANN, which governs the .com, .net, .org and a number of the standard TLD types issued, allows the losing registrar up to five (5) days to accept the transfer once the EPP/Auth Code has been verified. While some will push the transfer out before this day, most registrars will push it on the fifth day.
For .ca domains, which are governed by CIRA, transfers are instant. Once the transfer is processed, the losing registrar validates the code and then pushes the domain to the new registrar.
Once the domain is accepted and finalized, the transfer will change from Pending Transfer to Active.
