You will likely need to update your PHP version for security and compatibility purposes throughout the life of your website. Below, we’ll discuss how to manage the PHP version being used by your site, including a special feature from WP Squared that allows you to test a PHP version change before committing it to the live site.

Here is how you find the PHP updater:

  • Start at the WP Squared “Your Websites” dashboard.
  • Find the website you desire to update, and lick on the domain details button under the “actions” column (the monitor and gear icon).
  • Click the “Advanced” tab.
  • Click “PHP Settings”

Select the required PHP version from the drop down.

To test the change, click “Use Smart PHP Update”. This process clones the website to another domain, sets a new PHP version and runs checks to see if the PHP switch will break the site.

To update the PHP version for the website, press the “Apply” button. You can do this regardless of whether you’ve used the Smart PHP Update feature or not.
