A good backup strategy is a multi-pronged approach. When you think of your backup strategy, think of it as an insurance policy. It’s something you don’t want to ever have to use, but it’s there for if you need it.
When considering your back up strategy, it should include multiple forms of backups that are stored in different locations. While these strategies generally can be automated, as are the backups we have in place as one part of your backup strategy, it’s always advisable and recommended for our clients to take a periodic backup once in a while.
This article is to provide you some details on the differing levels of backups that we offer and the retention period that is available. These differ depending on the product that you have with us.
How our backups work overall on all plans
- All backups we perform are stored off-site in a remote location in Canada that is not connected to the main data center used. In some cases, we also maintain local onsite backups in addition to off-site backups for faster restores.
- The off-site backups we are performing are pull backups as opposed to the more common and less secure push backups and are encrypted at rest for added security.
Specific Information per Product:
Elastic Hosting
- Daily backups for all plan tiers
- Backup retention depends on the plan tier with a minimum of 2 weeks up to 3 months
- Backups can be easily restored by the client directly within the control panel, cPanel
Multi-Account Reseller Hosting
- Daily backups for all plans
- Backup retention 1 month
- Backups can be easily restored by the client directly within the control panel, cPanel
Email Hosting
- Daily backups are done for disaster recovery purposes
- Backups cannot be restored by the client
- Additional charge may apply to restore backups if necessary

Self-Managed Cloud Server
- The client is responsible for managing and maintaining backups on self-managed cloud servers.
- FullHost does not maintain any backups for self-managed cloud servers
- There are options for the client to purchase Acronis backup and storage from us to easily perform off-site backups of a self-managed cloud server.
Managed Cloud Server
- Managed backup service is available as an addon
- Backups are performed daily. There are addons to have backups run every 12 hours, 6 hours, 3 hours, and hourly.
- Backup retention is 7 daily restore points, 4 weekly restore points, and 3 monthly restore points.
- Backups can be easily restored by the client directly within the control panel, cPanel.
