Maintaining current and correct contact information for your domain is an important step to ensuring you’ve secured your digital brand and assets, and for most top-level domain types you are required to keep this information up to date. Failure to renew a domain or getting locked out of communications as the domain registrant can be very costly with respect to both time and money.

Contacts

Most domain types have the following contacts listed:

  • Registrant Contact
  • Administrative Contact
  • Technical Contact
  • Billing Contact

These contacts can all be the same, or if your organization prefers can have separate contacts for each. Most web developers will take ownership of the domain on behalf of their clients for ease of administration. While the Administrative, Technical, and Billing contact will reside on the domain registration system, the Registrant contact is especially important to keep current and up to date.

We strongly encourage you to use an email address that is independent of the domain in question, otherwise, if there are issues with your domain (IE a lapse in registration or poorly configured DNS records) you will be unable to send and receive correspondence.

How to Update

While each domain type has different rules and regulations, we will cover off the standard process for most domains and will include .ca specific information below. If you have a domain type that is not working or has other special rules, please contact our support.

  • Log in to our client portal at https://manage.fullhost.com.
  • Go to Domains > My Domains. To the right of the domain in question, click the "..." text, and select "edit contact information" (see pictures below, these areas are circled in yellow)
  • The 4 contacts should be listed there. If they are not, please open a support ticket.
  • You can either choose to “use existing account contact” or “specify custom information below”
  • Update the information that is current for all contacts and press save changes

If you receive the following message when pressing save changes it means that there is data quality issue that the registry has not accepted.

  • “An issue was encountered while updating the domain contact details. Please contact support.”
  • Please contact our support directly and indicate what specific changes you were trying to make (From > To)
  • We will review and let you know.

If you have changed the main registrant contact, this could trigger an ICANN Trade. This may also trigger an email verification request, which must be acted upon or else your domain may be suspended as per ICANN rules. See this article for more information. This does not apply to .ca domains, which are governed by CIRA, not ICANN.

IMPORTANT - IT IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED AND ENCOURAGED TO NOT USE AN EMAIL ADDRESS THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE DOMAIN YOU ARE MANAGING. (Example: if your domain is fullhost.com, do not use sample@fullhost.com). If anything happened to your domain, for example, a suspension due to non-payment, or buggy DNS records, you might not receive correspondence.
